According to the findings of KAKTUS Software, one of the leading companies in the field of information systems, online insurance is becoming a popular way of arranging insurance contracts. This research took place among company‘s customers. More and more people prefer arranging insurance from their personal computers to visiting branch offices evading the possibility of misuse of their credit card data.
The findings showed a rapidly growing tendency in arranging insurance online especially for damage liability, travel insurance and household insurance. Since the beginning of 2011 number of total arranged insurances grew up by 29% compared to last year. Greatest interest is taken in travel insurance.
The most significant increase was observed in damage liability where the number of arranged contracts grew up by 31% by the end of May 2011 compared to results from last year. Simultaneously an increased demand in online travel insurance has been observed by 26% and household insurance by 13%.
„More and more Czech customers prefer fast and easy way of arranging insurance contracts to a more complicated visit of branch offices.“ said Dalibor Němec executive director of Kaktus Software. „It is clear that more people begin to trust online systems and are not afraid of providing their personal information and credit card data on the internet. They found out that online payment is a secure payment method – sometimes even safer than ATM withdrawal or terminal payment which can be a target of fraudulent activity according to recent cases.“
To avoid credit card misuse on the internet the company KAKTUS Software recommends users to avoid methods of social engineering, ie especially:
- Do not tell your credit card information over the phone (ie, number, date of expiration, CVC code, PIN)
- Do not respond to emails requiring this kind of information
- Report the loss or theft of the credit card to reduce your liability
- Report any suspicious transaction on your account
